Hi there! My name is Mollie, and I am a new intern blogger for PhillyFit.com. I found this magazine last year at my apartment complex's gym and have since been a fan. I'm a graduate of Holy Family University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary and Special Education. I currently am a substitute teacher and work for a 21st Century Community Learning Center.
I have a passion for healthy, fit, and holistic living. I have played soccer for 15 years and still play on two adult leagues. I started CrossFit in August 2013 and recently took up yoga and meditation. I do my best to eat real, whole, and locally sourced foods. I am continually on a journey to educate myself about wellness, spread awareness about food advocacy, experience new places to eat that align with my diet preferences, and find places to shop that suit my lifestyle's needs. Has CrossFit ever crossed your mind?
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that encompasses many physical skills of fitness including strength, cardiovascular endurance, stamina, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. A CrossFit gym, or the "Box", is a place where a community gathers to motivate and support members to break out their comfort zone, dismiss their ego, and push for personal progress and success. A new box recently opened up only minutes from Northeast Philly, in Bensalem! Owners Brandyn Miller and Kevin Cagnetti have opened their first CrossFit affiliate and are excited to welcome new members to their community. Every Saturday morning at 9:00, they are offering a FREE workout open to anyone in the area. (Don't be shy! Everyone enjoys a freebie!) Here they will teach you the proper form and technique of some exercises and then prescribe you your first official WOD (workout of the day).
If you need some extra motivation, I got this covered! Scared? We all are at first. Stepping into a new gym, especially a CrossFit gym, takes courage. The word "risk" often has a negative connotation. Often times we forget that risk can lead to growth. Also, EVERY exercise can be and will be modified if necessary to fit your body’s needs.

Kit, MD, MPH; and Katherine M. Flegal, PhD, more than two thirds of adult Americans are overweight or obese. Be part of the remaining percentage of Americans who are taking action to lead healthier lives and begin to set positive examples for those around you. Rid yourself of ego and acknowledge that everyone starts somewhere and your "somewhere" starts now.
